RongamSerpens was born from a chance encounter in 2018 between Dr. Mihai Dragomir, a Romanian ecologist, and Elena Constantin, an environmental policy expert. While researching the alarming decline of endemic plant species in the Carpathian Mountains, they discovered a shared vision for a different approach to conservation.
What began as a small research project with just three volunteers has grown into Romania's most innovative conservation organization. The name "RongamSerpens" combines ancient Romanian and Latin roots meaning "guardian of the natural path" – reflecting our commitment to guiding Romania toward ecological harmony.
By 2022, we had established our headquarters in Cluj-Napoca and expanded our initiatives to encompass the Danube Delta, Carpathian forests, and urban centers across Romania. Today, we're a team of 28 full-time staff and over 500 volunteers working toward our 2026 sustainability goals.
